The Big Sew-In takes shape
The wool blankets are coming together thanks to all those who knitted/crocheted over 200 squares and helped sew them together last Saturday at St Mary’s Church in Balham.
The sewing began at the church by joining two knitted squares together then moved on to ten; finally the tens will be joined together to create blankets measuring ten squares by ten squares.
If you want to help us get to the finishing line with completed blankets then St Mary’s is open every Wednesday and Saturday,10am -12 noon for drop-ins.
Our keeping-warm initiative aligns with local businesses offering warm spaces over winter for those most in need, with the added bonus of a hot drink and soup.
Lastly, if you want to nominate someone in your neighbourhood who would appreciate one of these beautifully-made blankets to snuggle under over the chilly winter months, then do let us know.
Our thanks as always to our wonderful volunteers who took part in the Big Sew-In, including Ann (pictured), Ana, Bridget, Elaine, Lucy and our Operations Manager Jen Dolan. They joined volunteers from the Knit n Natter knitting club in Wandsworth Town Library.
