If you went down to Hazelhurst Estate...
We were very busy at the Scrapstore on Tuesday 25 July entertaining lots of teddies, children and their carers/parents at our teddy bear's picnic!
The sun shone - hurrah - and about 60 teddies and their owners came along to join in the fun. Our famous dress-a-teddy craft activity was enjoyed by all, lots of wishes were placed on our magical wishing tree and our happy thoughts bunting, started at Hazelfest, is now full of lovely thoughts. All of the items used at the picnic were otherwise destined for landfill or incineration - including:
picnic mats - previously Mayor of London signage
materials for dress a teddy (scrap card, sticky back, fabric, trimmings, yarns)
the wishing tree is an ex window display item and has been upcycled by our talented volunteer, Teresa
the happy thoughts bunting is strips of scrap fabric - carefully chosen and prepared by another clever volunteer, Berit
the teddies picnic - fake food previously displayed in a shop window
The green area behind Hayesend House tower block on Hazelhurst Estate was transformed into a beautiful garden complete with gazebo and a hive of activity - with children running races, meeting new friends, enjoying time with their teddy bears and people coming together to enjoy their picnic lunch. We very much hope to offer more of this sort of community event in the future.
